Key Uses of E-Glass in the Automotive Industry

  • Thermal Management & Exhaust Insulation: E-glass needled mats are extensively used in muffler assemblies, catalytic converters, and exhaust silencers to withstand high temperatures (up to 700°C) and reduce noise.
  • Engine & Under-Hood Insulation: Due to its resistance to heat and chemicals, it is used to protect sensitive components from engine heat.
  • Acoustic & Noise Reduction: Used to improve cabin comfort by absorbing road, engine, and vibration noise.
  • EV Battery Fire Containment: Specialized E-glass fiber mats are used as fire-resistant barriers in electric vehicle battery packs, providing essential fire containment and thermal isolation for lithium-ion batteries.
  • Structural Reinforcement (Composites): E-glass fibers are used to create lightweight, high-strength composite parts, such as dashboards and door panels, improving fuel efficiency.
  • Electrical Insulation: Used for wrapping and insulating cables and wires, owing to its high dielectric properties

Heat & Noise Shields

Due to the large amounts of heat given off by internal combustion engines, heat shields are used on most engines to protect components and bodywork from heat damage. As well as protection, effective heat shields can give a performance benefit by reducing the under-bonnet temperatures, therefore reducing the intake temperature. Heat shields can be cut and fitted to any specification.

Firesleeves

Darco Industries silicone coated fiberglass sleeves have an extra thick, special formulation of silicone rubber on them. They protect industrial hoses and lines from molten metals, slag, welding splatter, electrical or grinding sparks and contamination. They also provide protection from ozone, UV and abrasion. The standard color of coating is red oxide. The “danger red” colour of the silicon rubber is due to heavy loading of iron oxide to improve heat resistance. We also have black sleeves available, and silicone self-fusing tape, to seal the ends of the firesleeve, and Velcro firesleeves (Indent).

Darco DNR/SBR3 & DNR/SBR6 is a black, superior grade, blended 60 Duro Natural and Synthetic rubber sheets, reinforced with heavy Conveyor Belt Nylon fabric. The strong Nylon fabric reinforcement gives extremely high tear strength and dimensional stability and making it suitable for heavy duty hanging applications.

EPDM Rubber Sheet *INDENT ONLY

Darco DPEPDM3/DPEPDM6 is a black premium grade 70 EPDM rubber sheet, reinforced with a tear resistant Nylon monofilament fabric. It has high temperature resistance and chemical resistance to acids and alkalis. It is completely UV stabilized making it highly resistant to ozone effects and extreme weather conditions and is ideal for long term outdoor applications.

Application
The specially designed Nylon monofilament fabric reinforcement will not allow fluid penetration and gives EPDM Insertion improved tear strength and dimensional stability, making EPDM Insertion suitable for gasket sealing applications.
